Mukesh Ambani launches Reliance Jio Phone
Reliance Jio Chairman Mukesh Ambani unvealed the Jio phone at the annual general meeting of Reliance Industries Limited on Friday.
Unvealing the Jio phone, a feature phone loaded with smartphone features, Mr. Ambani said Jio is committed to ending “digital disempowerment and unfairness” by providing affordable data and devices.
Starting 15 August, “digital freedom to all Jio feature phone users for ₹153 a month,” he said.
The phones will be available for user for beta testing on August 15 and pre-booking from August 24. This phone will make 2G feature phone obsolete. All Jio phones will be made in India.
Akash Ambani & Isha Ambani introduced the Jio phone.
“Jio set a world record of 100 million customers, adding 7 customers every second,” he said.
“Jio today has over 125 million customers. We enabled Jio users to make calls anywhere to everywhere free. It has been the fastest adoption of any tech.”
“We are grateful to PM Narendra Modi’s dreams of a digital India. Jio consumers consume 125 GB of data, making it the largest mobile network. Jio has overtaken U.S. and China in mobile data consumption and India will become No. 1 in mobile broadband users.”
“Jio prime members have a special place in our hearts. Of the 78 crore mobile phones in India, over 50 crore are feature phone users. Jio will address this issue.”
“It took 25 years for our competitors to make a 2G network, but Jio has made a larger 4G network in 3 years.”
The company says Jio phone is designed to be very user friendly and affordable.
